Relentless! My enemy sometimes referred to as the Prince of the Air. Everywhere I turn, all of my thoughts, and every place I try to hide somehow he’s there. Failure after failure I try to focus, but his weapons are annihilating. Forcing through my life with hate, he challenges my direction. My direction to where? He covers my steps with nonexistence and shrewd anticipation. But I wait…standing firm and abounding in His work. I know that my labor in the Lord is not in vain. (1 Cor. 15:58)
Years ago I was the same person I am now, only now I’m forgiven. Sure, I looked at things different then. I had a small perspective on life. But, somehow God picked me to be an intricate piece to this puzzle.
On my knees in a barn, which I had remodeled after moving back home, I answered Gods call to the ministry. Oblivious to what He was orchestrating I started my journey. I had no walk with God, sure I had been in church my whole life, but I’m talking about a relationship. Mentors began to knock on my life’s door. True people of God would pour into my life the riches of His glory. Words of encouragement were at every corner. Huge changes in my life were taking place. God had a plan and for some reason it included me.
I was saved and baptized at an early age. I attended the same church year after year, decade after decade. I was part of the youth group and took part in skits and occasionally I would sing. I was the loud obnoxious kid that never listened in a group but always seemed to get all my lines correct in the lead role of the Christmas play. But something happened when I got a little older. My life turned rotten and I lost my zeal for Christ. I became part of the world, but still I attended church. A hypocrite! I graduated, went to college, got a good job, and then got married to a wonderful girl, the smile in my life, Becky. But somewhere in between the good job and marriage God showed up. I learned that He was my refuge, (Psalm 46:1) my fortress, (Psalm 91:1-2) and that the One calling me was faithful. (1 Thessalonians 5:24)
In the present, God has placed me in the middle of the best group of young guys. Sure we are called DaySevEn, but it’s more than a band. A ring symbolizes connection; a never ending trust. I believe it all starts with unity inside of the ministry. Then, God is able to add His ingredients. It’s our decision; our choice. Jesus said, “No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” I want you to take every thought that you have right now, negative or positive, and force it into action. Prayer sets things into motion. This is our ministry. This is my life.
